Research findings:
The application of far infrared radiation on male patients with Brunnstrom stages 3-5 and the skin temperature of the paralyzed side's distal upper limb showed a significant increase, indicating improved blood circulation and enhanced sensation in the distal limbs. Due to increased heat exchange and temperature regulation, the temperature between the paralyzed and non-paralyzed sides in females reached similar levels after IR-C treatment. The EC and VAS scores also indicated that IR-C irradiation could alleviate the pain commonly experienced by stroke patients on the paralyzed side and alleviate frustration during the rehabilitation period. In conclusion, IR-C HC (Infrared Radiation Combined with Heat Compression) is considered a novel and promising method to enhance stroke patient recovery by increasing microcirculation and reducing pain. IR-C HC can be used as an alternative to acupuncture. It is a non-invasive and non-burning method that is convenient to use.
